Answering 4 FAQs About Road Widener Attachments
When it comes to roadbuilding, utility and asphalt work, efficiency is key. Attachments offer versatility and decrease labor requirements, while boosting overall productivity.
That’s where Road Widener comes in.
The FH-R material placement attachment and Offset Vibratory Roller, for example, are two versatile attachments that can take your efficiency to the next level while saving you time and money. The FH-R is 80% less of an investment than self-propelled machines and the Offset Vibratory Roller offers 90% less maintenance than ride-on equipment. But you might have a few questions. Let’s address them!
1. How do the attachments work?
The FH-R easily connects to a host machine and operates off the carrier’s engine and hydraulics. The attachment works with standard hydraulics (17.5-24.2 g/min) and has only ten grease fittings to maintain. Material from a dump truck is run through the hopper of the FH-R and precisely dispersed in adjustable laydown widths from 1 to 6 feet (0.3 to 1.8 meters). The wireless remote controls the various laydown shoe functions. The attachment can dispense up to 20 tons of material in under ten minutes. Operators can control the FH-R from the safety of the host machine without the potential safety hazard of standing alongside moving equipment while placing material.
Like the FH-R, all you need to run the Offset Vibratory Roller is a host machine and the attachment’s remote control. Once attached to a host machine’s lift arm, the Offset Vibratory Roller becomes operable by easily connecting to the host’s hydraulics and pairing the remote control. From there, all aspects of the attachment — height, angle, extension and compaction adjustments — can be operated by a single crew member via the remote control. It offers a total reach of 9 feet (2.7 meters) and can be purchased with a 3- or 4-foot (0.9- or 1.2-meter) wide drum. The drums can pivot up to 30 degrees, reach up to 30 inches (76.2 centimeters) below the mounting point and are interchangeable. This allows crews to take on jobs of various sizes and aggregates by purchasing additional drums instead of investing in multiple self-propelled machines.
2. What applications are Road Widener attachments used for?
Our FH-R is designed to be a versatile, cost-effective machine that significantly reduces labor requirements compared to self-propelled equipment. It brings efficient, precise material placement to several different jobs.
- • Road widening: The FH-R provides unmatched productivity, safety and precision, making it the industry’s best-performing road widening tool. It allows you to get more work done with less hassle and 50% less manpower.
- Shoulder repair and remediation: On top of boosted productivity, the FH-R’s innovative design raises the standard of safety in road shoulder repair. Operators can control the equipment through remote control from the safety and comfort of the host machine cab. One of our customers, Martin Marietta, doubled production in their road shouldering work.
- Road construction: The FH-R has operating widths starting at just over 13 feet (4 meters), requiring only one lane of traffic to be closed. This allows contractors to tow the attachment by pickup with common-width trailers.
- Curb backfilling: With an optional Curb Back Filler accessory, the FHR is able to disperse material up and over new curb head safely without damaging new curbing.
- Trench backfilling: Contractors can use the FH-R for more than just roadwork. It precisely dispenses topsoil, gravel, asphalt and more for utility trench backfilling in a fraction of the time of traditional backfilling.
- Asphalt and aggregate placement: The FH-R comes standard with a heat rated belt, allowing it to handle everything from gravel and topsoil to hot mix asphalt.
Similarly, the Offset Vibratory Roller brings efficient, safety-enhancing compaction to several different areas. Your improved safety rating and employee comfort will help keep your business as profitable as possible.
- Shoulder compaction: The Offset Vibratory Roller efficiently compacts various materials on road shoulders, including stone, asphalt, gravel and topsoil while keeping operators on flat, stable ground, eliminating the risk of tipping while operating at a slope. The Ho-Chunk Nation Transportation Authority has doubled their productivity and experienced much safer compaction with the Offset Vibratory Roller.
- Outside slope and hard-to-reach compaction: The Offset Vibratory Roller excels during challenging compaction jobs on a slope or other difficult-to-access areas. Its offset arm provides the necessary reach to ensure operators can keep the host vehicle on flat ground.
- Ditch compaction: Like hard-to-reach and sloped areas, the Offset Vibratory Roller allows you to compact road ditches without any added rollover risk.
3. What machines can the attachments connect to?
Both the FH-R and Offset Vibratory Roller are designed to connect to commonly found machines that many contractors already own. Each can attach to skid steers, compact track loaders, wheel loaders and road graders.
4. How do Road Widener attachments align with asphalt paving?
Asphalt work is one of the most common applications for our attachments. Customers often use the FH-R to accurately and efficiently place asphalt. Its heat-rated belt allows the FH-R to lay down hot mix asphalt.
Once the FH-R places asphalt, the Offset Vibratory Roller can easily compact it. The 3- and 4-foot (0.9- or 1.2-meter) drum width options ensure asphalt contractors can simply swap out drums to whichever best fits the project.
Road Widener attachments provide you greater efficiency across several applications in roadbuilding, utility and asphalt work. They’re convenient to integrate into your fleet by attaching to equipment you already own, and easier and less expensive to maintain than self-propelled machines.
